Dilated Peoples
With Alchemist, Aceyalone & 88 Keys
Monday, June 23, 2008
Fox Theatre (Boulder, CO)
Doors @ 8:30pm
16+

As hip-hop culture evolved in the late 1970s and early 1980s, two things were hallmarks of the movement: DJing and lyrical excellence. In the last several years, no rap group has done more to champion those elements than Dilated Peoples. The Los Angeles-based trio of Rakaa, Evidence and DJ Babu inject their music with humor, insight and social commentary, and DJ Babu’s cuts add an additional layer of excitement and complexity to the group’s material. The group made a point to feature intense production on their newest release - 20/20 - something that makes the album an exciting aural experience that will translate well to the groups highly regarded stage shows, which is said to be among the best in hip-hop. Their shows are typified by brilliant tag-team rhyming between Rakaa and Evidence and turntable supremacy from DJ Babu, demonstrating that hip-hop shows could be entertaining and still prominently feature a DJ.

Mystic and Macklemore
With Black Pegasus, Macaatic Crew and DJ Gadget
Saturday, June 28, 2008
Fox Theatre (Boulder, CO)
Doors @ 8:30pm
All Ages

Hailing from Oakland California and currently residing in Los Angeles, Mystic released her debut album, CUTS FOR LUCK AND SCARS FOR FREEDOM, in the summer of 2001 to critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base. Co-headlining The Women of Hip Hop and Soul Tour with India Irie (put on my MTV2), the tour also featured Heather B, Kelis and Goapele. Fans and the unknowing alike were exited and impressed with her personal shows, either with a DJ or with a live band. Mystic has spent the past few years putting together a new album, entitled BEAUTIFUL RESISTANCE. Working with The Beatminerz, Eligh (of Living Legends), Zinn, Adamatic, Sample 208, and Buccweet; Mystic has once again put together an album full of love, pain, struggle, hope, fear and honesty for the next chapter. She is an urban dream with a voice that tells no lies.

Devin The Dude
With Special Guest
Thursday, July 03, 2008
Fox Theatre (Boulder, CO)
Doors @ 8:30pm
16+

Texas rapper, Devin the Dude has been a guilty pleasure of hip-hop since he and his Odd Squad hit the scene in the early 90's. Known for his homegrown blend focusing on the lighter side of reality, the rapper returns with his fourth studio release WAITING TO INHALE. The Dude has become well known for his humorous social commentary, earning the nickname "Richard Pryor of Hip-hop". Though a little less raunchy than his previous offerings, WAITING TO INHALE still comes as raw and uncut as ever, as he laces the classically styled grooves provided by his original Coughee Brothers crew.
